I read this out loud to my 7- and 10-year-old this spring. Full of goofy, literal puns for them and beautiful writing for me, it was the perfect family pleasing book to read.
I highly recommend this for any family with a middle-grade reader! Five out of five stars for great plot, writing, and character development. It’s also a racially diverse book with some lovely trans/non-binary representation. None of those things becomes the issue to solve, however. People of all kinds simply exist and are acknowledged as valid.
Throughout the mystery-solving process, the family becomes closer and more supportive of each other. Young Shenanigan Swift may decide to act like her name – but she can also act with discipline, courage, and kindness.
